Is Armageddon a literal battlefield where all the armies of all the rulers of the earth gather themselves
…squeezing themselves into to the plain of Megiddo like sardines, unable to breathe let alone defeat an attack from heaven…Hardly a strategic battle move and more like the antics of morons who know nothing of tactics. Or is it NOT literal and sensational, but really the most strategic global culture war in history (today comes to mind as this is the very first time this has happened in all history)… We are in the most strategic attack upon Christianity in history…globally organizing against the true Church of Christ and so frightening that many Christians believe this is the Post Christian era.
The very fact that Armageddon – as it is currently taught in today’s pulpits - occurs in the 6th Vial Judgment of Revelation, and not the last (7th Vial Judgment) should “clue in” the Church that much taught on the subject misses the mark. It is NOT the final conflict (on earth) against the reign and rule of evil… or the Evil One. But, it IS the most strategic battle in all of history… and global in its reach.
Of course, if we refer to Christ’s work on the cross as a “battle”, then such was the most decisive in history. However, “battle”, as used above, is used as of the presence and conflict of many “combatants”, though used in a different sense from conventional military arms.
Christ’s meritorious work on the cross was, indeed, the most decisive and FINAL judicial act to determine the outcome of history. However, the outcome was still to be “played out” in history as well. This battle - Armageddon – is the final great confrontation in history before Satan’s kingdom is crippled (not yet annihilated) worldwide.
Christ’s Cross work on Calvary was the DETERMINATIVE sentence of Judgment against sin, the world and Satan:
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. – Col. 1:20
The fact that Christ WON the sentence of Judgment against Evil and the Evil One, makes it mandatory that the worldview battle must be fought and won in time and space, with the guarantee that Righteousness will prevail.
…Thy Kingdom come thy will be done, IN EARTH… as it is in heaven. – Matt. 6:10
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against authorities, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. – Ephesians 6: 12
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ… - II Corinthians 10:5
And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. – Mark 3:26 - 27
Armageddon and God’s “Weakness”
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called … But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption… I Corinthians 1: 25-26, 30
It also means that God has ordained that “the weakness (Gr. ἀσθενής, asthenēs) of God is stronger than men.” (I Cor. 1:25). The question becomes this: Does God have a weakness? If not, what does Paul mean here in this passage? If so, what is the “weakness” and, more to the point, HOW does (or…”will”) it show itself STRONGER THAN MEN?
